How to use
Measure the length and width of the space in feet (or metres) and enter them, then pick your tile size. The calculator multiplies the area by your waste allowance — 10% is standard for a straight layout, 15% for diagonal or herringbone — then divides by the tile coverage. A 12×12 inch tile covers 1 ft²; a 24×24 covers 4 ft².
FAQ
How much extra tile should I buy?
Most DIYers add 10% for straight layouts and 15% for diagonal or patterned ones, plus one extra box so future repairs match the dye lot.
Do I enter the waste in square feet?
No — enter it as a percentage. The calculator adds it on top of your measured area automatically.
What if my room is not a rectangle?
Split it into rectangles, add the areas, then enter the total. This keeps the estimate accurate without a complex shape input.
